About
Pitra dosh arises when the souls of ancestors are not at peace, often because shraddh was not performed or because of karmic debts (pitra rin). In the kundli it is indicated by Sun or 9th house afflicted by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn. Families with pitra dosh may face childlessness, repeated miscarriages, quarrels, financial blockages and unexplained illness. Siddhavat on the Kshipra is one of India's four sacred vats for pitra karma. The puja includes pitra tarpan, pind daan, Narayan pujan, Vishnu sahasranama path and havan.

Siddhavat, Ujjain
Siddhavat is an ancient banyan tree on the Kshipra, counted among the four sacred vats of India along with Akshayavat (Prayagraj), Vanshivat (Vrindavan) and Gayavat (Gaya). It is a principal tirth for pind daan, tarpan, Narayan Bali and Pitra Dosh shanti, and also for Kaal Sarp Dosh puja.

Do I need the names of ancestors?
Names of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather (and maternal side if known) help, but the puja can be done with gotra alone.
