Shatchandi is the grandest Devi anushthan: one hundred recitations of the Durga Saptashati by a team of eleven Vedic pandits over several days, concluding with a mahayagya of dashansh ahutis. The Markandeya Purana and Devi Bhagavata describe it for great crises, national or family calamities, severe graha dosha, royal victory and all-round prosperity. It is performed with full shastric vidhi including Ganapati, Matrika, Navagraha, Vastu and Kshetrapal pujan.
