Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Ujjain

Mahakaleshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and the only one that faces south (Dakshinamukhi). Ujjain, the ancient Avantika, is also the prime meridian of Indian astronomy, which is why Mahakal is worshipped as the lord of time itself. The dawn Bhasma Aarti is world famous. Rudrabhishek, Mahamrityunjay jaap and Kaal Sarp shanti performed in the Mahakal kshetra are believed to be exceptionally powerful.
